BJ CONCEPCION
Dancing for a good 10 years or so - BJ likes
to think of himself as a self-made choreographer/freestyler. Primarily
learning from what he has seen and experienced out in the streets, and
mimicking styles from hiphop monsters such as Twitch, Marty Kudelka, Shaun
Evaristo etc. - Isolation/hybrid style hip hop is his first love.
As he Started off initially as a popper, and
branched off to lyrical/hiphop - BJ aims to constantly learn new styles to
add to his versatility as a freestyler/choreographer, as he is a big
believer in adding the foundations of each individual dance style to his
pieces. He has always been known to have a great ear for music, and this
shows in his intricate style of movement.
BJ is an original member of the dance crew
Groovesteps and has been part of various others such as Lemmings, Sneaker
Pimps and B'kinki. He has entered and placed a fair few competitions such as
KUTD, Elite, Looze Control, and taking 1st place at Groove Hills 08 with
his past all-boys group PSYKE. He has also performed at various events and
functions including LIVID, has done some podium work for NY101, Danced in
video clips for extremely talented Nufirm artists such as Richard Tanumi
& Tarina, and has learnt from some of the most well-known International
hip-hop choreographers such as Teresa Espinosa, Gigi Torres, Kenny Wormald,
Tracey Seiler/Bianca Vallar from Choreo Cookies & Sho-tyme. He also has
recently collaborated/taught a workshop with amazing UK choreographer
Jasmine Saulo.
He absolutely loves to set himself apart
from the majority, and hopes to show that modestly through his work.
Choreographic influences include Lando
wilkins, Lyle Beniga, Shaun evaristo, Twitch, Phillip Chbeeb & Salah.
